Executive Chairman of the LASCO Affiliated Companies, Lascelles Chin, was named among the 2017 GUSI Peace Prize International awardees in Manila, Philippines.
The ceremony on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, honoured 17 in a glitzy affair.
“I am both pleased and humbled to have my work honoured internationally,” said Chin, who accepted the award in person.
Chin was cited as having greatly contributed to the betterment of people’s lives and to the promotion of peace in the world as mandated by Presidential Proclamation No. 1476, declaring every fourth Wednesday of November as the GUSI Peace International Friendship Day.
The LASCO founder is also the third Jamaican to be awarded the GUSI Peace Prize. Fr Richard Ryan Ho Lung was inducted as a social services laureate in 2011. The year before, Arnold Foote Jr was inducted for peace and mutual understanding.
The GUSI Peace Prize is Asia’s foremost awarding body.
It was presented by Barry Gusi, son of Captain Gemeniano Javier Gusi – a World War II guerilla against Japanese oppression turned politician.
